Fern's Delicious and Mild Green Energy Soup

Fern sent this recipe to our meet up group and I wanted to post it here. I've changed it up just a little bit and she told me that was OK to do and I *LOVE* when people send me their recipes!

Ingredients

  • 2 to 4 stalks celery
  • 3 to 4 big lettuce leaves
  • 1 - 2 oz fresh wheatgrass juice
  • 1 Empire apple
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons granulated kelp
  • 2 to 3 cups water
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons spirulina added near end

Preparation Blend all ingredients and serve.

Fern says: Eat with a spoon, in a bowl. Can easily be spiced up with cayenne or ginger - which I did yesterday, as I was feeling cold. Been keeping heat way down and wearing lots of layers. :-) I used the larger proportions in the version I made today, pretty much. This is a delicious, mild smoothie, but I was trying to pack it with green nutrition. The proportions are obviously so flexible. I personally add the spirulina at the end, to preserve antioxidants. I usually stage it this way with any thing that doesn't need so much blending. This was done in a good but basic blender - not a Vitamix or such.

Linda says: YAY Fern! For this green green soup/smoothie! I love having savory options. This in the vitamix is SOOOOO creamy and smooth.
